Precedents
A prior interpretation of House or Senate rules that is referred to in subsequent, similar situations. The precedents of the Senate are compiled in the one-volume Senate Procedure, Precedents and Practices, which is published as a Senate Document. The House precedents are compiled in three different multi-volume sets known as Hinds' (or Cannon's or Deschler-Brown's) Precedents of the House of Representatives and are updated by an irregular publication, Procedure in the U.S. House of Representatives, issued by the House Parliamentarian's office.
